Would you like to know how much time is left on your Mac warranty or AppleCare? Or maybe you are purchasing a used Mac and wish to know the warranty expiration or repair options for that specific Mac. Here’s an easy way to check using the Apple Online Service Assistant.
You’ll need the serial number of the Mac. So first, go to Apple Menu -> About This Mac but instead of clicking on the version number twice to reveal the serial number – open the System Profiler by clicking the More Info button instead. This will make it easier, as you’ll need to copy the serial number to the clipboard.
If you’re really into the shortest of shortcuts, you can also click the Apple Menu to drop down the menu and hold down the Option button to make the About This Mac menu item change to System Profiler. Either way, be sure to copy the Mac serial number.
Next, open your browser and go to the Apple Online Service Assistant. Now paste in the Mac serial number you copied, select the country you’re located in from the drop down list and click the Continue button.
If the Mac is still in warranty or AppleCare, the Online Service Assistant will list the Apple warranty expiration date and whether the Mac is still eligible for complimentary phone support. If the warranty has expired, the Online Service Assistant page will also include a link to the support page for the specific Mac model so you can still find help.
The Apple Online Service Assistant can be used with other Apple hardware products besides the Macintosh computer. Apple provides a comprehensive list on how to find the serial number of your Apple hardware product.
